THEATRICAL LION KING X SCHOOL OF VISUAL ARTS

THE ASSIGNMENT:

To celebrate The Lion King’s 25th anniversary on Broadway, selected students from The School of Visual Arts were invited to collaborate with Disney Theatrical Productions and reimagine the show’s iconic mask. Using the existing logo as a foundation, we were challenged to create a commemorative design, exploring both traditional and digital media.

The project was showcased at the Minskoff Theatre and featured in The School of Visual Arts Spring Exhibition. Additionally, The Lion King highlighted our projects on their official Instagram stories.

MY PROJECT:

I designed a sculptural piece using silver, gold, and black acrylic mirrors. It was accented with gold-painted sticks to symbolize the sun—a recurring motif in the show representing the circle of life. The mirrors were intentionally used to encourage viewers to see themselves within the lion, echoing Mufasa’s powerful message: “Look inside yourself. You are more than what you have become.”

Through this design, I aimed to honor The Lion King as a timeless symbol of self-discovery, life, and hope.
